Police test high schoolers for cannabis

Published lördag 5 maj 2012 kl 10.37

More than 40 people were taken in for drug tests at a known assembly point for cannabis users near Gothenburg on Friday, reports Swedish Radio. Most were of high school age or slightly older.

Growing use of the drug has been reported by the police in Stockholm, Malmö and Gothenburg and observers note it is a trend among young people in urban areas.

The results of all the drug tests have not been made public but Gothenburg police officer Fredrik Lennartson tells Swedish Radio that five of the nine persons under the age of 18 had positive test results for the drug.

"We are getting indications that some groups of youth are using a lot of narcotics. It is difficult to quantify this but it's an impression we are getting in a lot of our work," he says.
