Train delays persist throughout the evening
Train traffic is slowly returning to normal between Stockholm and points north. The first commuter train from Stockholm to Uppsala was scheduled to leave at 3:11 PM and from uppsala to Stockholm at 4:09 PM. However, travellers should count on cancellations and delays of up to two hours during the afternoon and evening, according to the website of SJ, the the state-owned company that runs passenger railway traffic.
SJ has staffed its counters at the train stations in Uppsala and Stockholm with extra personnel to help passengers sort out their travel plans.
Trains came to a standstill between Uppsala and Stockholm early this morning because of an electricity problem, caused by a fire at a power station north of Stockholm.
This morning, SJ, said some 8,000 of their travellers would likely be affected.
Updated at 6 PM: The SJ web site says traffic is now running as normal but there are still some delays which are likely to persist throughout the evening.
