Swede suspected of terror attack to face court in Cyprus
The Swedish man who was arrested in Cyprus on suspicion of plotting to attack Israeli tourists in the country will face a court trial on September 7, reports news agency Reuters.
Israel has accused the man, who is of Lebanese descent, of planning a suicide bus bombing, similar to the one in Bulgaria on July 18 in which five Israelis were killed. Israel suspects the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and the state of Iran of being behind the attack.
The man flew to Cyprus from London and was detained by Cypriot police two days after his arrival. Reuters reports that the man was arrested after police received a tip-off from British intelligence services.
The man will be formally charged at the hearing in September.
