The swimmer Therese Alshammar will miss two events at the Olympics due to injury. Alshammar and the medical staff will make a final decision on her fitness on Tuesday next week.

It was confirmed Friday that Alshammar will miss the Saturday's 100-metre freestyle relay, and the 100-metre freestyle singles as well.

"It's impossible to say whether she can compete at the Olympics at all," the swim team's doctor, René Tour, told news agency TT.

Alshammar is one of Sweden's medal hopes at the Games but has been troubled by a trapped nerve in her neck since early July.

The 50-metre freestyle, the swimmer's proven favourite, gets underway on Friday next week.
