Swedes in Turkey released

Published tisdag 31 juli 2012 kl 15.33

The four Swedes who were arrested for rape in Turkey this weekend have been set free and are on their way back to Sweden, the foreign ministry confirmed Monday.

The Swedes were arrested in the popular tourist destination Alanya after a police complaint from a 19-year-old Norwegian woman.

"We have received information that the Swedish citizens have been released without charges," foreign ministry spokesperson Anna Backlund told news agency TT.

According to the tabloid Expressen, the Turkish police have decided to deport the Swedes, but the foreign ministry cannot confirm whether that is the case.
