Gunilla Carlsson to serve on UN panel

Swedish Development Aid Minister Gunilla Carlsson is to be part of an international panel which is to recommend new global social and environmental goals.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon named the 26 members of the panel, which include Queen Rania of Jordan, former Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan, and Nelson Mandela’s human rights activist wife Grace Machel.

The three co-chairs are: President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono of Indonesia, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia, and British Prime Minister David Cameron.

The group has just over a year is to present recommendations for a follow-up to the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.
