Police profiling comes under fire – again
The Stockholm police has been criticised for relaying the suspect description "Pakistani" from a person filing a robbery complaint. The choice of words comes just over a week after local police in Stockholm came under fire for describing a suspect as having a "Romani appearance," news agency TT reports.
After relaying the initial description, the police wrote on its website that "no Pakistanis were spotted in the area."
Johan Silverland head of command at the Södertörn police in Stockholm, criticised the choice of words.
"I do not think that is so fortunate," he told TT. "We have to be able to use clear descriptions, but that is not done by describing a suspect's nationality."
