Tornéus one centimetre from the podium
The Swedish longjumper Michel Tornéus missed the bronze medal in Saturday's final after jumping 8.11 metres – a mere centimetre behind the US bronze medalist Will Claye.
"Do I even need to tell you how I feel right now?" asked Tornéus. "To miss a medal by one centimetre – I am so disappointed."
Therese Alshammar also missed the podium in her 50-metre freestyle final. But the swimmer, who has been troubled by a trapped nerve in her neck, was still happy with her performance.
"I have had some problems going into the final," Alshammar told Swedish Radio. "But I swam my fastest time so far at the Olympics, so I'm happy with that."
