Swedish wrestler Jimmy Lidberg won a bronze medal at the Olympic Games in London on Tuesday evening. According to Swedish Radio, Lidberg struggled against his opponent Tsimafei Dzeinitjenka from Belarus for most of the match, but triumphed in the third period.

The bronze is Lidberg's first Olympic medal.

Lidberg had been unable to compete in recent games due to injuries. Swedish Radio reports that Lidberg's previous match at the Olympics was a disappointment after the judge retracted the points he initially gave to the Sweden, resulting instead in a victory for his Russian opponent Rustram Totrov.

As he cried tears of joy, Lidberg told Swedish Radio that due to his injuries he is not likely to continue competing, but that this medal was worth all the effort.

"If you win a medal without having fought for it, there's no joy in it. It's the journey there that matters", he said.

Lidberg's medal is the seventh medal for Sweden in this year's Olympics.
