Social Democrat local youth group suspected of fraud
A local branch of the Social Democrat youth organisation (SSU) cheated when claiming state support, reports the Piteå-Tidning paper.
According to the paper's investigation the SSU branch in Piteå claimed to be holding numerous courses, but around half had been invented, simply in order to gain subsidies. The false claims are reported to amount to 600,000 Swedish kronor, around US$ 90,000.
Recently the SSU in Norbotten was suspected of a similar fraud, and the group has now reported itself to the police.
The political secretary for the SSU, Juan-Pablo Roa, says to news agency TT that it is unlikely that this kind of subsidy fraud is widespread in his organisation, since most local areas are supported with state money based on a totally different system.
