social services to investigate

Foster father arrested for sexual abuse

Published lördag 11 augusti 2012 kl 10.50

A man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually abusing two children under the age of six who were put in his care by the local social services in Upplands Väsby, reports Swedish Radio.

The man had been in police custody since June on suspicion of rape against children. He has now confessed to the charges of sexual abuse.

The two children were taken into care after reportedly being sexually abused by their biological father.

As soon as social services suspected that the children were being abused in the foster home they had been placed in, they removed the children. They have now been placed in a family home where it is expected they will be able to stay for a longer period of time.

Maria Fälth, Christian Democrat and head of the Upplands Väsby municipality, says an investigation will be conducted to see if the local social services had made any errors in their ensuring the foster home's suitability.

"To find out if we could have done anything differently, apart from all the controls and interviews", Fälth told Swedish Radio.

"Our focus is on making sure these children regain confidence in the adult world", she said.
