The Swedish Olympic Committee had asked for Lisa Nordén to be also awarded a gold medal for the women's triatholon, but the appeal was denied.

On Friday, the Swede lost to Switzerland's Nicola Spirig by a fraction of a second, and now the Swedish Olympic Committee says that the photos used to decide a winner were not correctly interpreted.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) decided on Saturday to deny the request for an appeal.

According to Swedish Radio's Olympics correspondent, CAS claims no rules were broken in the competition, and the decision made by the judges will not be revised. CAS also said that it was not a matter of legal rules, but of competition rules.

Nordén will keep her silver medal, and Spirig her gold medal.

Nordén told TT that she had anticipated the decision.

"If I had gotten gold it would have been like a fantastic fairy tale, that doesn't happen in real life", she said.
