Model sues Volvo for US$ 23 million

Published onsdag 15 augusti 2012 kl 16.09

A US model is suing Volvo and two business partners for US$ 23 million over an advertisement that she says makes her look like an escort girl. The law suit, filed in New York, is over a picture used on an Australian singles site.

Carolyn Giles says Volvo has misused the photo, which was taken five years ago when she worked for Ford Models.

Under her smiling face are the headlines “Spend a night with the Swedish model of your choice” and “Test drive dating”. Her lawyer says the advertisement makes Giles “look like an escort, with extreme sexual and inappropriate connotations”.

Volvo has responded that Giles signed a contract giving Volvo unrestricted use of the image in print and on the Internet, globally, and without time limitations.
