Assange granted asylum in Ecuador
Ecuador’s government has announced it is granting asylum to Julian Assange. The WikiLeaks founder has been inside Ecuador’s embassy in London since the UK Supreme Court ordered that he be extradited to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning about sex crime allegations.
Beginning the press conference, Ecuador’s Foreign Minister Ricardo Patiño strongly objected to a suggestion from the UK that under existing legislation it has the power to lift the diplomatic status of the embassy.
Earlier in the day he said that Britain was threatening to “storm” the mission and warned that the age of colonization is over.
