Assange appearance scheduled for 13:00 UTC
WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is supposed to make an appearance outside the Ecuadorian embassy in London Sunday, but it’s hard to see how he can do so without being taken in custody by the British Police.
Assange has been granted asylum in Ecuador after the British Supreme Court ordered that he be extradited to Sweden to face questioning on sex crime allegations. But there appears to be no way he can get to Ecuador, or even leave the embassy, without being arrested.
WikiLeaks says Assange will be making a speech at 13:00 hrs UTC (3:00 PM Swedish time). One Swedish commentator has speculated he might speak from a balcony and thus remain within the diplomatic sanctuary of the embassy.
Assange "can remain indefinitely" in embassy
Ecuador's president Rafael Correa acknowledged Friday that WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will remain in his country’s embassy in London as long as Britain refuses to give him safe passage out of the country.
