Tourists to Sweden are an important part of the country's economy, according to employer's organization Svensk Handel.

Figures from the past year show that Swedish and international tourists spent over US$ 11 million in shopping for Swedish goods while on holiday.

According to Svensk Handel, cited by news agecy TT, around half of the money international tourists spent on holiday in Sweden was on shopping.

International tourists accounted for US$ 14,000 in VAT revenue last year, which indicates an increase by 11 percent compared to the previous year.

Shopping tourism from countries like Norway, where prices are considerably higher, contributed to increases in sales in border towns in the provinces of Värmland and Sörmland.
