A Swedish man kidnapped in Mali last year has been interviewed by the TV news channel Al-Jazeera together with fellow hostages from the Netherlands, the UK and South Africa.

In the footage the men can be seen sitting cross-legged on the floor with long beards, and in good health, according to the channel. They ask their respective governments to start negotiations with the kidnappers to ensure their release.

It is thought the men are being held by a group with links to Al-Qaida. Swedish authorities refuse to comment on the men's situation.
