Demonstration against limestone quarry
Police have taken into custody around a dozen demonstrators protesting against the felling of trees to open a new limestone quarry on the island of Gotland.
The demonstrators have tried to build human chains around the forest, and some have climbed into trees. Otherwise, the TT news agency says, the situation is somewhat of a stalemate. “On one side of the barrier tape the demonstrators are sitting and drinking coffee,” says photographer Kalle Melander, “on the other side the police are sitting and drinking coffee.”
