The Swedish High Court has lengthened the prison sentences of the couple convicted of kidnapping a wealthy Uppsala student last year.

The 27-year-old man and the woman, who is 24, were originally sentenced to eight years in prison by the district court in Uppsala.

They now face ten years behind bars as the High Court issued its ruling on Wednesday, reports the TT news agency.

The verdict cited evidence that the abduction was well-planned and that the victim was drugged as factors testifying to the gravity of the crime.

The victim was kept hidden under the floorboards of a house in northern Sweden for a week, after being taken from his home in Uppsala in December.
