It has been five years, but the authorities have now decided to drop charges against the one time mp3 mogul Jens Nylander, founder of Jens of Sweden.

It was in February 2007 that the Swedish Customs Service told prosecutors in Stockholm they believed Nylander had provided false information about imported mp3 players, depriving the state of thousands of dollars in taxes.

Now, days before the trial was due to start, the prosecution has told Västerås District Court they no longer want to pursue the case. Speaking to the business newspaper Dagens Industrial, Jens Nylander says “A write-off may not be a victory, but it is for me.”

Jens of Sweden, a pioneer in inexpensive mp3 players in the early years of the century, was declared bankrupt in 2005.
