Two teenage boys have been sentenced today to youth counselling and community service for beating up a 61-year-old man in a suburb of Gothenburg in March this year.

The 15 and 16 year olds were convicted of aggravated assault and will also have to pay damages to the victim, who ended up in a coma following the assault.

Prosecutors wanted the boys to be convicted of "serious aggravated assault" and sentenced to youth custody, but the court found them guilty of a slightly lesser charge, news agency TT reports.

They will now have to spend between 70 and 100 hours in community service and also face counselling. They will also pay the victim almost US$20,000.
