Skåne police caught a gang that sent out illegal drugs - and counted this as solving almost 11,000 crimes, reports broadsheet Dagens Nyheter.

The figures from Sweden's national Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) seem to show that in 2011 police solved 3,600 more crimes than in 2010. But when the 10,990 crimes ascribed to this internet-drug gang are taken away, the police have solved 7,400 fewer.

The gang, based in Ystad, sent out bags of illegal doping drugs. Each time this gang of eight did so, the police counted it as eight separate crimes.

Speaking to Dagens Nyheter, the assistant prosecutor for Skåne county, says that they were simply following the guidelines laid down by Brå.
