Mummies untouched by museum fire
Museum curators at Stockholm's Ethnographic Museum are happy to report that a fire which broke out in a cold storage room on Tuesday has caused no damage to the newly arrived mummies from The Museum of Mediterranean and Near East Antiquities.
Out of a total of 4,000 objects in the museum, only 220 have been seriously damaged or destroyed.
"We are very relieved to see that the damage is limited when compared to our worst fears, only a few hundred of the approximately 4,000 objects are destroyed or seriously damaged," said chief curator Lars-Erik Barkman to Svenska Dagbladet newspaper.
Fire fighters say they are still not sure how the fire started, according to news agency TT. But the police suspect arson.
