The population of Sweden is nearing the 10 million mark, new figures from Statistics Sweden show.

There will be 9,552,000 Swedes by the end of 2012. That’s a 69,000 increase on last year.

Around 113,000 children are expected to be born in 2013 with 92,000 expected deaths.

Immigration figures will be nearly twice as large as emigration figures next year, with around 100,000 new people expected to arrive in Sweden and roughly 52,000 expected to leave the country.

At this rate, the Swedish population is expected to hit the 10 million mark by 2019.
