Of those convicted of assault in 2011, nearly half (46 percent) were young men aged 15 to 29. One in five were teenagers, according to a new report from the Swedish National Board for Youth Affairs.

Nine per cent of young men aged 16 to 24 were victims of assault and nearly five per cent of young women said they had been victims of a sex crime.

The study shows that the "risk of having carried out a violent or violating act is 3.2 times higher for young men who agree with stereotypical statements about gender roles and with stereotypical descriptions of masculinity and femininity compared to young men who do not agree with such statements."
