The Gothenburg district court has senteneced the man who abducted a 9-year-old girl in Gothenburg and held her for nearly a day last November, to two years in prison for unlawful deprivation of liberty, reports news agency TT.

The 25-year-old man was also found guilty of unlawful threats, petty assault and petty child pornography.

The Gothenburg district court says the man will be forced to pay SEK 120,000 in damages to the girl.

The girl was kidnapped on her way to school last November. Police and hundreds of volunteers from the organization Missing People searched for the girl, who was eventually found by a citizen later that night.

In questioning, the girl described how she was extremely scared. She said the man had threatened to sell her as a sex slave.

The man pleaded guilty to taking the girl away and keeping her against her will but denies that he abducted her.
