The Norwegian skier Jörgen Aukland has won Sweden’s historic Vasaloppet race with a time of 3 hours and 50 seconds.

“It was tough at the start to get going,” he told Swedish Radio, after the 90 km race from Sälen to Mora in Dalarna. “I was worried that there would be a big spurt to deal with but then I just tried to go as fast as possible at the end - the others didn’t respond so I came first.”

It was Auklund’s second Vasaloppet win. Swedish skier Daniel Tynell came second place.

The fastest woman was Laila Kveli, also from Norway, who came in at 4 hours and 22 minutes.
