Suspected bomb destroyed in Stockholm
A suspected bomb was destroyed by Stockholm's police at on Tuesday night. The suspicious package, plus a letter, was left at a branch of the currency exchange firm Forex by a man who later disappeared, the police told news agency TT.
"We saw it as a serious situation and decided it was better to be safe than sorry" says police commander Mikael Berkesand to TT. "Our bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled detonation a quarter past eleven."
Police sealed off a large area by Stockholm's Skanstull, including the Ringen shopping centre where the Forex branch is located and a major bridge between the island of Södermalm and the south of the city.
Around 40 police were involved in the operation.
