Half of distance learning students drop out
Only half of the students who study in online distance college programs graduate, according to the newspaper Ny Teknik.
A Statistics Sweden review of 17,000 distance learning students found that 55 percent completed their program, compared to 81 percent of the students who attend a college campus.
Seventy-seven percent of women who study via distance complete their programs versus 57 percent of men. Sixty-seven percent of distance students were happy with their education, compared to 81 percent of students who attend a campus.
But for those distance students who graduated, 90 percent were happy with the education they received.
Ny Teknik writes that one reason many of the distance students drop out of school is because so many of them work while they are studying. Statistics Sweden found that 38 percent of women and 44 percent of men in distance programs work full-time jobs.
