Radio archives spawn "prog music" box set
Swedish Radio has just released a 40-disc compilation featuring the best of Swedish prog music from the sixties, seventies and eighties. Some of the biggest bands in the genre have live performances from the Swedish Radio archives put on CD for the very first time.
Prog music was very popular here, and unlike its counterparts in many other countries, it was highly political and very left wing. Radio Sweden spoke to the head of Swedish Radio's very own record company, Anabelle Jönsson.
She explains the background to the mammoth project, which has taken years to complete. She adds that more treasures from the Swedish Radio archives could soon see the light of day, as much of the archive will soon be available for streaming, and even old live sessions by Michael Jackson, for example, could be released on CD, copyright deals permitting.
