If the Social Democratic Party wins the next general election then Sweden will have the lowest unemployment in the EU by 2020.

That was the promise made by the party’s leader Stefan Löfven in his introductory speech at the party’s conference in Gothenburg today.

Sweden’s unemployment rate is currently 8.2 percent, while Europe’s lowest rate is 4.8 percent, in Austria.

The Social Democratic leader went on the attack against the government after months of relative silence in the Swedish media.

“It seems that Sweden has a government whose position is to not take responsibility,” he said, adding that 427,000 Swedes are looking for work while many companies cannot find people with the right skills.
