Växjo stopped the Roma flag
Monday is International Roma Day, to honor one of Europe’s most oppressed minorities. But local media report that a plan to raise the Roma flag in front of city hall in the southern town of Växjö was blocked at the last minute.
The local network Flysam was behind the initiative, and last week received permission to raise the Roma flag from the local municipal property company. But the head of the city council, conservative Moderate Bo Frank, vetoed the plan at the last minute, reports news agency TT.
According to municipal officials, Växjö only raises the flags of national states, except for the Pride flag, which the municipality says prioritises diversity.
