Swebits film piracy indictment
An indictment has been filed in what Swedish Radio News calls this country’s biggest ever case of individual film piracy.
The defendant is accused of illegally distributing more than 500 movies and TV programs over the file-sharing site Swebits.
The uploads were between April 2008, and November 2010, when Swebits had around 35,000 users. The site closed in February 2011.
Prosecutor Henrik Rasmussen tells Swedish Radio News the defendant was a moderator for the site, but is also accused of uploading much of what was available on Swebits. Films were reportedly uploaded up to three months before the official DVD releases.
The previous largest case here of a single person accused of film piracy involved around 60 movies.
