Sweden’s King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia will visit Thailand this month to show their gratitude for the hospitality shown to Swedes caught in the Tsunami disaster.

In a three day visit, the royal couple will personally present their thanks to Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, but the rest of their schedule has not yet been set.

Support for the Swedish monarchy has widely increased in recent polls, after the royal family’s efforts to comfort the nation following the tidal wave that left hundreds of Swedes missing or dead.

Eighty percent of Swedes now want to keep the constitutional monarchy. Since the 1970s, support for the royal family has hovered around 70 percent.
