Drunken Truck Driver Appeals Against 4 Year Jail Term For Killing 5 People

Published fredag 4 februari 2005 kl 11.51

A Hungarian truck driver convicted of killing five people in a drunk-driving accident has appealed against his four year prison sentence.

Csaba Pallagi, who’s 45, expressed his remorse in court for the accident last October, in which his truck , shortly after leaving the Trelleborg ferry, made a u-turn on the highway and collided with two cars, killing a family of four and another woman.

Pallagi, who’d been drinking on the ferry, was convicted at the time for involuntary manslaughter, driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.

Prosecutor Anders Lethin, who also appealed the district court’s ruling, asked the appeals court to extend the prison sentence to six years. The verdict will be announced Feb. 10.
