Swedish-Iraqi Kidnapped in Iraq

Published måndag 7 februari 2005 kl 12.30

The Swedish Foreign Ministry says it is investigating reports that a Swedish citizen of Iraqi origin was kidnapped in Iraq last month.

The Ministry has confirmed that a 60-year-old Swedish citizen has been reported missing in Iraq, where he has been living for several years.

The man is the purported leader of the Christian Democratic Party in Iraq.  A text message sent to his family last week said that he was being held by 15 armed men who ‘kidnapped him for his own best, to make sure nothing would happen to him.’

The Iraqi Christian Democratic Party did not take part in the recent elections and no ransom demand has been made.
