Bigger payout boosts numbers of egg donors in Skåne

Published fredag 31 maj 2013 kl 11.25

Authorities in Skåne in the south of Sweden have managed to get rid of the waiting list for egg donations by increasing the payment to donors, reports newspaper Sydsvenskan.

A major shortage of egg donors for couples who want to have children but cannot has caused huge waiting lists in most parts of the country.

But in Skåne, where couples had to wait up to two years to get an egg, donors now get SEK 11,000 per egg donated, instead of SEK 3,000. The measure has led to a drastic increase in the number of egg donors.
