One person has died as a series of accidents stopped traffic on the combined E18/E20 highway near Örebro Monday.

At around 8:00 am a bus with Japanese tourists crashed into the back of a school bus and shortly afterwards two cars collided. Around 60 people were taken to Örebro University Hospital, and four were said to be in serious condition.

While the road was closed there was another accident when a truck rear-ended two cars on the E20. The police say one person who was reported as seriously injured subsequently died. The other three people involved in the second accident are said to have minor injuries.

Around 60 victims from the first accident were taken to Örebro University Hospital. Ten are said to have serious injuries, another 14 or 15 are said to have minor injuries.

The emergency room had been put on a disaster footing, but that has now been downscaled to a “heightened” status, which means extra resources have been made available to the emergency room.
