Swede injured in explosion in Iraq

Published torsdag 6 juni 2013 kl 11.34

A man in his forties from western Sweden has been injured in an explosion in Iraq. He is being treated in hospital in Turkey, according to Sweden's Foreign Ministry.

"The doctors will decide when he can come home to Sweden," says Maria Parent from the Foreign Ministry's press department.

The explosion happened in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad. It is not yet known what the Swede was doing in Iraq.

Sweden's Foreign Ministry advises against "non-essential travel" to Iraq, except in the provinces of Dohuk, Erbil and Suleimaniye and those Swedish citizens who travel to the country, do so at "their own risk".
