Swedish meat producers claim that new EU rules could threaten popular barbeque steaks here.

During the production the meat is injected with a saline solution, which manufacturers say makes the meat juicier. They say new EU rules about food additives could put the practice at risk if the National Food Agency follows the rules to the letter, tabloid Aftonbladet reports.

But the agency says it is not out to ban anything for no reason, but there could be better additives than those currently used. The agency will decide how to apply the new rules in September, Aftonbladet reports.
