Longest-serving prisoner in Sweden may be freed

Published måndag 10 juni 2013 kl 13.18

The person who has served the longest prison sentence in Sweden, Leif Axmyr, may be released in three years, according to several media sources.

The district court in Örebro ruled Monday to limit his sentence to 51 years, and if he serves two-thirds of it, that means he will be released in 2016.

Axmyr, who turns 75 on Tuesday, started serving his sentence thirty years ago for committing a double murder in Gävle, in which he killed his former girlfriend and her new husband, and then set fire to the apartment.
