Narrow loss for Sweden in Euro basketball match

Sweden's women's team narrowly lost the first match of the basketball world cup, and in a further blow, their best player was injured.

Sweden lost to Italy 63-64. Star player Elin Eldebrink had her knee bandaged at half time, and managed to keep playing. Sweden missed out on a penalty shot with in the final seconds of the game.

Sweden's women have not qualified for the Eurobasket championship for 26 years, reports news agency TT. Now the team face the "group of death", with Russia, Spain and Italy. Only three of the four can qualify for the next stage. Spain, and especially Russia are formidable opponents, reports Swedish Radio Sport.
