Stockholmers are looking at two possible public transportation strikes on the eve of the upcoming Midsummer holiday weekend, with several other labor conflicts looming as well.

The Kommunal union has delivered official notification that it intends to take industrial action against the bus services in Stockholm and Umeå on Wednesday. The TT news agency says the strike could be extended to other cities next week.

And the Seko union is threatening a strike that could close down one of the lines in the Stockholm subway system Thursday, as well as commuter trains in Stockholm, Gothenburg, and the southern region of Skåne.

There are also threats of labor action by industrial cleaners and telecom employees.

The public transportation workers are calling for job security when new operators take over services. Negotiators from the Swedish National Mediation Office are reportedly deeply involved in talks aimed at avoiding labor conflicts.
