Thousands of puppies smuggled to Sweden
Around 2,000 puppies are smuggled into Sweden every year, according to the Customs authorities and the National Board of Agriculture, reports TV4 News.
The puppies are bred in so-called puppy factories in Eastern Europe and smuggled to Sweden. According to the authorities, the smuggling is run mainly by organized crime.
Animal rights groups have long criticized the puppy factories for breeding dogs in a near industrial way which, they say, is very painful for the puppies.
