Trustee to be prosecuted over fraud

Published söndag 23 juni 2013 kl 11.46

A trustee in western Sweden is accused of stealing over 1million SEK from nine clients. According to the prosecutor, one victim lost nearly 500,000 SEK.

The trial will likely start in the autumn, but there is a chance that several of the crimes will be statute-barred if the District Court rules that they are moderate-degree offenses.

"That would be very unfortunate," prosecutor Bodil Widenheim-Eriksson told local newspaper Göteborgs-Posten. She has demanded that the crimes be regarded as serious offenses.

According to Widenheim-Eriksson, the trustee managed to get away with the crimes for years by taking money out of one person's account and then covering up the transactions with money stolen from another client.
