Gothenburg kidnapper sees his sentence increased

Published måndag 24 juni 2013 kl 11.38

A man found guilty of kidnapping a nine-year-old girl in Gothenburg last year had his prison sentence increased on Monday by the court of appeals for western Sweden.

Monday's ruling sentenced the man to three and a half years in prison for unlwaful deprivation of liberty, assault, unlawful threats and child pornography crimes. A district court had previously sentenced the 25-year-old to two years in prison.

The court of appeals considered a four-year sentence, but settled for three and a half after taking into account the 25-year-old's psychological disability, Asperger's Syndrome.

Monday's ruling also increased the damages the man is to pay to the victim, from SEK 120,000 to SEK 195,000.
