Hammarby fans say goodbye to historic stadium
Football fans in Stockholm are morning the loss of an iconic stadium today - at least in the southern part of the city, where the club Hammarby is based. Yesterday, the team played their last game at Söderstadion, the 15,000-capacity venue where they've played their home games for nearly 50 years. The team will now be moving to a stadium double the size just next door. But many are saying things will never be the same.
Hammarby's fans are known for their dedication - and they kept cheering just as loudly even after the team dropped out of the top league in 2009. “I've been visiting all my life since I was six years old," says Calle Lindblom, a 24-year-old Hammarby fan who went to his first game before he turned one. "It's harder today when you know it's over. You're never going back."
