A truck carrying ammonium nitrate, a fertilizer that can also be used as an explosive, has flipped over and begun to leak in Köping, central Sweden. The driver has been sent to hospital, Swedish Television reports.

Nearby residential areas Husta and Ängeby were evacuated, according to police in Västmanland.

Residents in local areas Ullvi and Vallby had been told to be prepared to evacuate if the necessity arises.

"The truck contains 29 cubic metres of ammonium nitrate. We do not know if diesel is leaking as well. Ammonium nitrate kan explode near fire," says Thomas Fransson with local rescue services.
