Radio and TV tower hit by power cut
A power outage hit the Stockholm radio and TV tower Kaknästornet at lunchtime Monday. As of Monday evening the tower was kept running by diesel generators and the cause of the breakdown was still unknown.
"We know that the electricity company is working intensely to find the fault," said Lotta Darlin, a spokesperson for technical infrastructure company Teracom.
According to Teracom, which runs broadcasting for Swedish Radio and Swedish Television from Kaknästornet, there is little risk of disturbances to broadcasts.
"The reserve power is diesel so it could run for several days," said Darlin.
Carola Hjerthén, head of communications at energy company Fortum, believes the fault could be repaired as soon as 10:00 PM on Monday.
"That is the estimation for now," she said.
Kaknästornet is a major hub of Swedish television, radio and satellite broadcasts.
