Record doping gang bust leads to 22 convictions

Published tisdag 25 juni 2013 kl 19.43

A 36-year old man has been sentenced to nine years in jail in Stockholm for heading up a multi-million kronor narcotics and doping network, reports news agency TT.

The record breaking investigation into the smuggling gang which sold an estimated SEK 50 million in drugs and steroids in Sween over the Internet resulted in 22 convictions for drug crimes.

The gang leader is believed to have personally amassed more than SEK 18 million in illegal gains. Twelve of his accomplices were convicted to jail terms ranging from one to four years. The remaining gang members were given fines and suspended sentences.

Despite the long sentence handed down by Stockholm district court to the gang leader, prosecutor Christina Voigt said it was shorter than the prosecution had aimed for.

“But I cannot say yet whether we will appeal,” she told TT.
